3M and United Way UK launch GoStem!

Global science-based technology company 3M and United Way UK have co-designed GoStem, a unique opportunity for students and young people to engage with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) through a range of career and personal development opportunities.

Delivered with Engineering Development Trust, the programme opened in June 2022 for 16-21-year-olds living around 3M’s manufacturing sites in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham and Atherstone, Warwickshire.

This bespoke course will teach young people about the amazing science and technology that is happening on their doorstep.

Through interactive sessions with experts and 3M mentors, GoStem is inspiring young people to follow a career in STEM, gain job readiness skills and receive 1:1 mentoring support.

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive an accredited Silver Industrial Cadets award. This accreditation can be included in CVs or portfolios and highlights the skills and insights they have gained.

3M Site Visit Opportunities!

3M is organising site visit opportunities this Autumn. The visits are open to any young person interested in a STEM career - you don’t need to have participated in the GoStem course. It’s a great chance to meet 3M scientists and engineers, explore the world of work in STEM and get career inspiration.

If you are aged between 16-21 or are a school interested in joining one of the 3M sites visits in the Autumn, please get in touch. Youth groups and schools will be selected on a first come first serve basis.
