United Way UK joins international colleagues at United in Purpose!

In May, United Way UK (UWUK) had the opportunity to join international colleagues at the annual United in Purpose conference in Houston, Texas – the first face-to-face conference since 2019!

Here’s what our Operations Manager, Radhika Rajani had to say:

“As a newer member of the UWUK team, I was grateful for the opportunity to connect with our international colleagues, particularly the Europe and Middle East regional team, with whom we collaborate regularly. Not only did the conference provide a platform for professional discussions, but it also presented a chance to form personal connections, fostering a sense of partnership among the United Ways across the world.

The skill-building sessions were my personal highlight. Jane, our UK CEO and I, carefully selected the most relevant sessions to attend, aligning them with UWUK's organisational and strategic priorities. I gained valuable insights into transforming funding pipelines, the art of cause marketing, and enhancing partner connections with the work of United Way. Being able to discuss how other United Ways operate was particularly useful and a good opportunity to share best practice – I’ve come away with some great ideas for UWUK’s 10th birthday next year!

It was also an honour to meet the President of United Way Worldwide, Angela Williams, and to have the chance to attend a dinner with some of the United Way leaders. It very quickly became apparent how determined each United Way is; firstly to make an impact on the communities that need it the most and secondly, to support each other in doing so – a truly inspiring evening!

From the free upgrade on the flight there (thanks to the charms of Jane!) to the final dash to the airport after the last session on diversifying revenue, it was a demanding few days, but we powered through the jet lag and made the most of every moment we had in Houston – including squeezing in a trip to Johnson Space Centre and the still-operational Mission Control Centre, along with our United Way Hungary colleagues!

I’m excited to be able to implement my learnings from United in Purpose to UK operations and to continue to ‘lock arms’ with our international family. Here’s to the next 135 years, United Way!”
